Gorilla Tango Network is a new Chicago-based film production house. GTN is an offshoot of the very successful Gorilla Tango Theatre, which has built a solid reputation over 8 years.
GTN owner Dan Abbate and GTN Project Coordinator Derek Mungor (himself a director) are both creative and business savvy. Their model is to let the creative people do their thing -- and they handle all of the business side for a fair share of the profits. GTN takes a 51% share and handles all important business matters, including help with funding, production oversight, marketing, distribution through multiple channels, and certain built-in legal costs of production.
The filmmakers -- that's me and my creative team -- do everything else. Think DIY (Do It Yourself), low budget, working on the production for equity shares and screen credit and portfolio pieces. Generally speaking: the production money is going into the cost of the film.
GTN's criteria for projects they like? In Dan's words, "It has to sell a $10 ticket."
So GTN thinks that Cardboard Caskets -- as a finished film -- can sell $10 tickets.
